ZION BATTLE
"The central gian cylinder of subterranean dwellings capped by a mushroom-shaped docking bay - to an unrelenting storm of machine attack"
Mushroom shaped docking bay!? lmao. Yup, drug influence, makes sense.
"To concentrate their attack, sentinels mass above the Zion dock in a bizarre five-fingered formation"
I'm so dumb I never realised it looked like a hand. Doh
"Eon speculated how the machines could manifest a single consciousness...Larry and Andy became turned on by the possibility of the whole becoming greater than the sum of its parts by anthromorphizing the herd. We came up with snake-like creatures then emphasized interwining, kaleidoscopic weaves and knotting corkscrews that could only be calculated through Mike Morasky's algorithms."
Mike who?
NEO LOGOS JOURNEY
"Reeves performed subsequent scenes wearing a facial prosphetic created by JMB FX Studio. Although Neo has been blinded, he sees the world around him in abstract, pulsing-enegry form...Neo has only just begun to master this new asset in the real world...He could previously only 'see' inside the Matrix, so his ability in the real world is limited and what he sees is blurred."
"The theory was that Machine City was built over Mesopotamia, so the mountain ranges and natural environment were loosely based on Syrian mountain ranges"
Knew it.
"Neo is overwhelmed as one sentinel detonates near the ship's windshield and its 'soul' penetrates the cockpit."
Knew it.
"World code visions were interesting because they were so heavenly they neutralized the perception of evil that the machines had been equated with since the beginning of the film. It was a theme explored in some of the Animatrix films, a twist on the idea that humans were no neccesarily the good guys. The ecology has been decimated not only by the machines, but by man. Man chose to destroy the sky and, consequently, all the vegetation on the earth. It allowed for the possibility that the machines were good as well."
Well we all knew that anyway.
"The idea was that the origin of life for the Machine World could be represented as fractals...in the same way that the origin of life could be represented as a single-cell organism in the sea...The machines had a crustacean undersea aesthetic combined with the fractal logic of the city layout"
"Neo halts on a parapet overlooking the vast city and is met by a gigantic array of quill-like antennae rising into view around a seething mass of denizens that takes on the appearence of a cherubi human face. A whimsical take on classical drama's 'deus ex machina' - in which an apparently insoluble crisis is solved by the intervention of a deity - the creature communicats with Neo, speaking in ternum-vibrating tones as the voice of all machines. The machines have never seen a human in their city until this time...so they create this repesentation that a human can identify with. Of course its ironic because Neo can only see it as this golden energy field, Geof Darrow's concept was to use an infant's face, which was unexpected but we realised it was cool because it also suggested a little Buddha, Andy Wachowski suggested we shoot video of his one year old nephew Hanks. We set up 3 digital cameras around Hank and got him to express himself by rattling a little toy in front of him. Hank was such a happy kid, that we thought we werent going to be able to use any of the footage. He was just too cute. But then Hanks parents took his toy away, and he just erupted! It was perfect for our Deus Ex!"
LOL.
SUPER BRAWL
"We shot on a VistaVision using a Spacecam mounted on the front of the helicopter. The locations department closed off a large section of downtown; and when we flew in, a crowd gathered to watch us flying between buildings with only a few feet either side of the rotor blades. We rehearsed the move, then shot several takes at dusk"
THIS IS THE REASON FOR THE HELICOPTER. No frickin' helicopter chases ok!?
"They impact at a location in the center of Sydney...it was a big deal to the brothers, because that was where Neo makes his phone call at the end of the first film before he flies up into the air."
Knew it.
"Superbrawl concludes at the base of the impact crater, Neo throwing a roundhouse blow that connects with Smith's jaw in an excruciating, bullettime Super Punch. Inspired by a historic photograph of boxer Rocky Marciano delivering his trademark 'Suzy Q' right hook to overpower Jersey Joe Walcott in 1952."
Interrresting.
"The Superbrawl concludes with Smith consumed by a wave of energy that spreads from clone to clone, lighting up city streets. ESC animated the scene using cellular automata - a procedural simulation in which each Smith was treated as an intelligent cell capable of reacting to its sorroundings. Smiths reacted to neighbouring Smiths cracking and exploding, propogating reactions and creating a fractal expansion of light as the Matrix yield to Neo's higher power."
"I always assumed Neo was dead....Being dead I thought his body should be black when the garbage truck carried him away, but while we were developing the shot the Wachowskis mentioned Neo should be glowing white"
