This overview will get you up to speed on the resources you will need for this course. We will look at the website overview along with the syllabus information. From the syllabus we will look at how we will be using Pearson MyLab to do homeworks, quizzes, and exams, as well as the various services (tutoring, office hours) available during the semester. Welcome to MAT 172 Pre-calculus. This semester you will learn the core fundamentals needed for Calculus. We will be using Pearson MyLab for taking exams and doing homeworks. The following video provides information about using the course website during the semester.
The goal of the course is to learn about functions and characteristics to them which applies to calculus. The course requires that you remember key concepts of algebra which are factoring, solving equations, law of exponents,Inequalities. The following video provides information about the syllabus.

We will be using Pearson Mylab (that you would need to purchase), which contains the e-book, homeworks and exams. Watch the following video in which shows how does MyLab works for the course
Homework's are worth 15% of the overall grade. They are currently located in MyLab. Each homework is based on a lesson covered in the course schedule. Homework questions can ask you to either type in a number, select multiple choice, or make a graph. Homework's also have an option called homework help. You can select it and it will provide you the following options (video, place in the e-text which the homework came from, or a similar example with step by step solutions). Homework's can be attempted unlimited amount of times, for I only keep the highest grade. The deadline for all homework's is the last day of class.
Exams are worth 85% of the overall grade (Quizzes are worth 12.5% each, Midterm worth 25% and Final worth 35%). Each quiz and exam is based on lessons that were covered in the course schedule. You have unlimited attempts to do a quiz (up to the due date) and I am only keeping the highest score. Exams have to be done in person and an appointment can be made here.
There will be tutoring services are available (select this link) for more information . Other tutoring options are net tutor as well as the math department service center (MS3). When using tutoring it has been proven to increase course grades.
